The KW66 is a sports focused smartwatch released in October 2020 by the Chinese manufacturer IMILAB. IMILAB is apparently a Xiaomi backed company who primarily manufactures smarthome products. While this is IMILAB’s first smartwatch, it is not a Xiaomi product.
The KW66 is using a Realtek RTL8762C processor (see internal photos below). This processor is found in many low end smartwatches in the $30 to $50 range. It performs OK given the pricepoint even though it is not the smoothest operating watch.
The KW66 appears to be nearly identical to the $35 Haylou Solar LS05 smartwatch (another Xiaomi backed company). The design is nearly the same, the specifications are identical and the user interface is the same.
The watch is using a proprietary operating system. There are only a limited number of apps on the watch and no app store is available to add any additional apps. What you see, is what you get for apps on this smartwatch.
The KW66 has a circular watch face design with a zinc alloy & plastic case. The watch is available in black, silver and gold and actually looks pretty good for a low priced watch.
This smartwatch is on the larger size at 45.3 Χ 45.3 Χ 12.7 mm and weighs 54g. The 12.7 mm thickness is big as well and could be uncomfortable for some to wear while sleeping.
The KW66 comes with two 22mm silicone interchangeable straps, one black and one green. The strap is comfortable and quality is acceptable for this low price point.
You can interact with the watch using the touchscreen and 1 physical button. The touchscreen works fine but the watch does not have the smoothest scrolling. The KW66 has a IP68 water resistance rating which could allow hand washing and some splashing. Showers could be risky and swimming should be avoided.
The KW66 comes with a 1.28″ TFT Touchscreen packing 240 x 240 pixels. This screen is average at best. Colors are not as good as an AMOLED screen and you can see some pixelation in the text. Indoors the display is fine while outdoors in sunlight is not that great.
IMILAB does not indicate what screen protection is provided and we expect protection to be limited. That being said given the low price, build quality appears to be good.
Unfortunately, the watch does not have an always on screen option. The watch allows for custom watchfaces which is a nice feature.
The KW66 comes with a 340 mAh battery. IMILAB claims that typical usage battery life is 14 days and standby battery life is 30 days. Real world battery approaches 2 weeks which is quite good when compared to other smartwatches. Battery life is one of the biggest positives of this watch.
From a connectivity perspective, the KW66 can only receive notifications and there is no ability to respond to notifications from the watch. Emojis are not supported. Some people have had trouble getting notifications to work when paired with their smartphone. Given the budget nature of the watch, there is a risk that it will not interact well with your smartphone.
Unfortunately the KW66 does not have any other connectivity features:
- No speaker
- No microphone
- No ability to answer or place calls via bluetooth
- No camera
- No cellular connectivity
- No GPS
- No Near Field Communication (NFC) for payments
Health and Fitness Features
The KW66 comes with 3 sensors: Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate Monitor (HRM). These only cover a few fitness and health areas. These sensors allow you to track the following 5 metrics: Calories, Distance, Heart Rate, Sleep, Steps.
Unfortunately accuracy for heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking and step tracking is poor. The heart rate monitor records a heart rate even when not on your wrist, a ridiculous sensor.
Also included are 13 different sports modes. When compared to more fitness or health focused watches, the KW66 is quite limited. If fitness and health monitoring are key features you are interested in, this watch is not ideal.
Glory Fit App
The IMILAB KW66 uses the Glory Fit app, which is very low quality. The app presents the same rudimentary data as the watch and has limited functionality. The low rating of this app on the Google Play Store is justified.
As this watch has just recently been released, there are no common known issues.
Very basic smartwatch with poor tracking accuracy and very limited features. App is below average. Avoid this smartwatch.
