The Kospet Rock is a rugged smartwatch released in January 2021. Kospet is known for their full Android watches but also have numerous budget smartwatches under $50. The Kospet Rock is using a Nordic NRF52840 processor. This processor is found in numerous low end smartwatches. It is not the fastest processor and there are occasional lags but overall UI responsiveness is adequate.
The watch is using a proprietary operating system. There are only a limited number of apps on the watch and no app store is available to add any additional apps. What you see, is what you get for apps on this smartwatch.
The Rock has a rectangular watch face design with a plastic case. The watch has a retro look and goes for a more chunky design. Not a sleek or stylish watch but there are fans for this look. The watch is available in black or green.
This smartwatch is medium sized at 43 x 20 x 12.7 mm and weighs 50g. The 12.7 mm thickness is on the larger size and could be uncomfortable for some to wear while sleeping.
The Rock comes with a 20mm silicone strap but it is a proprietary strap that is non-interchangeable. The silicone strap is quite thin and not the best quality. While the strap is comfortable, we suspect it will not be too durable.
You can interact with the watch using the touchscreen and 2 physical buttons. While there is a home and back button, both buttons actually perform the same function, sending you back to the previous screen. The touchscreen works OK but there are occasional lags.
The user interface is simple to navigate but some of the English phrases do not have the most professional translations.
The Rock claims to have a 3ATM water resistance rating which allows for swimming. A swimming mode is included as well. While it seems to be water resistant, Kospet indicates not to wear the watch in a bath or shower.
The Kospet Rock comes with a 1.69″ TFT Touchscreen comes with 240 x 280 pixels. It is a large screen and looks good for a TFT screen but does not look as good as AMOLED screens. The colors are not as vibrant and you can see some pixelation in fonts and images.
Kospet does not indicate what screen protection is provided but the watch is quite durable. The bezel around the watch should also help prevent screen scratches. For the price, the build is quite good.
Unfortunately, the watch does not have an always on screen option. The watch allows for custom watchfaces which is a positive.
The Rock comes with a 350mAh battery. Kospet claims that typical usage battery life is 14 days and watch mode battery life is 50 days. Real world battery life hits ranges between 10 to 14 days which is quite good.
From a connectivity perspective, the Rock has quite limited and can only receive notifications. There is no ability to respond to notifications from the watch. Note that emojis are not supported for received notifications.
Unfortunately the Kospet Rock does not have any other connectivity features:
- No speaker
- No microphone
- No ability to answer or place calls via bluetooth
- No camera
- No cellular connectivity
- No GPS
- No Near Field Communication (NFC) for payments
Health and Fitness Features
The Kospet Rock comes with 4 sensors: Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate Monitor (HRM), Pulse Oximeter (SpO2). These cover few fitness functions and even some health areas. These sensors allow you to track the following 8 metrics: Blood Oxygen Level, Blood Pressure, Calories, Distance, Heart Rate, Sleep, Steps, Swimming. Having blood pressure monitoring on such a low priced smartwatch is very surprising
Unfortunately the Kospet Rock does not have the most accurate tracking:
- Heart rate tracking is generally lower on the Kospet Rock than actual heart rate
- Step tracking is overly optimistic
- Blood oxygen tracking does not appear to be accurate
- Blood Pressure tracking is not accurate at all, appears to be a set of random numbers in the normal range
Also included are 20 different sports modes.
Da Fit App
The Kospet Rock does not have a dedicated app, rather Kospet recommends using the Da Fit app. The app is not cluttered and easy to use but has limited functionality. An average overall app. You can see how the Da Fit app ranks on our Smartwatch Apps Page.
As this watch has just recently been released, there are no common known issues.
The Kospet Rock is a cheap rugged watch that with basic functionality. Heart rate and SpO2 tracking are not great. Blood pressure tracking is completely fabricated. Consider it for basic features only.
